Need more than just an gas disconnection?
If your project also needs electric, water or telecoms, our multi-utility service could save your programme significant time and cost.
why timing is critical
Unlike water or electric disconnections, gas disconnection carries a specific and well-understood risk. A live gas supply that is struck, fractured or pressurised during demolition works can cause explosions, fires and serious injury or death. There is no tolerance for shortcuts or delays.
Gas Network Operator timescales for disconnection can vary by area and by the complexity of the supply being removed. Engaging us well ahead of your demolition programme start date is essential to avoid site delays.

common questions
Gas connections, your questions answered
Do I need a gas disconnection before demolition starts?
Yes. It is a legal requirement under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 and CDM 2015 that all gas supplies are formally disconnected and the meter removed before any demolition works begin. A live gas supply on a demolition site presents an extreme safety risk. This applies to all gas supplies serving the building, including any sub-metered supplies and shared mains connections. Do not allow demolition to begin until you have written confirmation from us that all gas supplies are safely disconnected and abandoned.
How quickly can a gas disconnection be arranged?
Timescales depend on the Gas Network Operator area, the complexity of the supply and the meter removal process. Straightforward disconnections can sometimes be arranged within a few weeks of notification, but we always recommend engaging us as early as possible. Engaging us when demolition is still at the planning or tender stage gives us the maximum time to coordinate both the meter removal and the supply abandonment to fit your programme.
Can you manage both the disconnection and the new connection for our redevelopment?
Absolutely, and this is where we add the most value. Managing both the gas disconnection and the new connection through Connections2energy means one account manager coordinates the full sequence, ensuring the two processes are programmed together to minimise downtime and avoid gaps that delay your build.
Do you coordinate gas disconnections alongside water and electric?
Yes and coordinating all utility disconnections through one provider is almost always the most efficient approach. Managing gas, water and electric disconnections separately creates scheduling risk. A single delayed disconnection can hold up your entire demolition programme. Our multi-utility service coordinates all utility disconnections together into a single programme, through one account manager.
