Why NERS accreditation matters

The National Electricity Registration Scheme is administered on behalf of UK Distribution Network Operators (DNOs). It is the mandatory accreditation for any contractor carrying out new connections, alterations or diversions on the electricity network.

As a utility facilitator, we don’t carry out the physical works ourselves, but every contractor we appoint must hold current NERS accreditation. To ensure fair competition, DNOs allow you to use NERS-accredited Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs) rather than going directly to the DNO itself.

This is where we add significant value. We access the market, obtain competitive quotes from accredited ICPs and IDNOs, and appoint the best combination of price, quality and programme fit for your specific project.

common questions

Electric connections, your questions answered

=
=
What is a new electric connection and when do I need one?

A new electric connection is required whenever a property or development needs a fresh supply from the distribution network. This includes new-build homes, commercial premises, extensions or conversions. The process involves applying to the relevant DNO, appointing an NERS-accredited contractor and coordinating the connection to your programme timeline. We manage the full process on your behalf.

=
=
Do your electrical contractors hold NERS accreditation?

Every electrical contractor we appoint holds current NERS accreditation. Without it, a DNO will not accept or sign off connection works. We verify NERS status before appointment and audit it throughout our working relationship.

=
=
How long does a new electric connection take?

Timescales vary depending on the scale of the connection, the DNO area and any reinforcement requirements. Simple domestic connections can be completed in weeks; larger commercial or infrastructure projects require more lead time. We provide a realistic timeline at the quotation stage and work to your construction programme from day one.

=
=
Can you manage electric connections alongside other utilities?

Yes, and we'd recommend it. Managing electric alongside gas, water and telecoms through our multi-utility service reduces your delay risk from 44% to just 11% (NFB data). One account manager, one programme, one point of contact for all utilities.

=
=
Do you manage EV charging infrastructure connections?

Yes. EV charging infrastructure typically requires three-phase supply upgrades and new connections. We coordinate the full electrical infrastructure process for EV charging installations across commercial, residential and public sector sites.
