Why NERS accreditation matters
The National Electricity Registration Scheme is administered on behalf of UK Distribution Network Operators (DNOs). It is the mandatory accreditation for any contractor carrying out new connections, alterations or diversions on the electricity network.
As a utility facilitator, we don’t carry out the physical works ourselves, but every contractor we appoint must hold current NERS accreditation. To ensure fair competition, DNOs allow you to use NERS-accredited Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs) rather than going directly to the DNO itself.
This is where we add significant value. We access the market, obtain competitive quotes from accredited ICPs and IDNOs, and appoint the best combination of price, quality and programme fit for your specific project.

common questions
Electric disconnections, your questions answered
”How
Do your electrical contractors hold NERS accreditation?
Every electrical contractor we appoint holds current NERS accreditation. Without it, a DNO will not accept or sign off connection works. We verify NERS status before appointment and audit it throughout our working relationship.
Do I need a disconnection before demolition starts?
Yes. It is a legal requirement that all live electricity supplies are safely disconnected and meters removed before any demolition works begin. Attempting demolition with a live supply in place is extremely dangerous. This applies to both the incoming mains supply and any sub-metered supplies within the building. We coordinate the full disconnection process to fit around your demolition programme, so there are no delays to your start on site.
Can you manage both disconnection and new connection?
Absolutely and this is where we add the most value. Many redevelopment projects require an existing supply to be disconnected before a new connection is made for the replacement scheme. Managing both through Connections2energy means one account manager coordinates the full sequence, ensuring the disconnection and new connection are programmed together to minimise downtime and avoid any gaps that could delay your build. It also means one point of contact, one set of documentation and no risk of the two processes conflicting with each other.
Do you manage EV charging infrastructure connections?
Yes. EV charging infrastructure typically requires three-phase supply upgrades and new connections. We coordinate the full electrical infrastructure process for EV charging installations across commercial, residential and public sector sites.
