Process
From the point of enquiry, you will have a dedicated Account Manager who will handle your project from start to finish.
We require site plans showing the termination points of your gas and electricity meters. From that, we will obtain a cost for the work for you. We will arrange any necessary site visits to streamline the process. Once your acceptance of the quote and your payment is received, we will schedule the work and arrange a site visit with you.
We will then arrange a start date for the work. Depending on the complexity of the job, we aim to have you connected within four to 12 weeks. Following the completion of the gas connection work, we will install your meters, enabling testing and commissioning of internal fixtures and fittings to be carried out.
Gas Connection FAQs
-
When can you carry out the work?
We aim to get your utilities connected within 4-12 weeks
-
How much will my connections cost?
Cost is variable, depending on the point of connection and scope of work. Your Account Manager will provide you with an estimate at your initial enquiry.
-
What areas do you cover?
We provide nationwide coverage
-
Can you do one-off connections?
Yes, we will provide quotations for service alterations of gas and electric, one-off connections.
-
What meter do I need for a domestic house?
A U6 meter, providing up to 64 kwh, is required for a standard residential property with a gas central heating system.
-
What is the lead time to get my gas connection done?
We aim to deliver your new gas connection six to eight weeks after payment and acceptance. Note that council approval of the relevant permits is required to make your connection, and that can vary, depending on which council is involved.
-
have been told my gas connection is non-standard.
Non-standard connections have many different criteria. There could be more than 40 metres of service pipe on private land, or you could be more than 23 metres away from your nearest mains connection. Your gas meter may be located above the ground floor, which would require a steel riser solution. Your dedicated account manager will give you more guidance on non-standard connections.
-
How will I know if my unmetered gas service is live?
You will require a live or dead check to identify the status of your service pipe. That will tell us whether you need a new meter or a completely new gas service.
-
Can I upgrade my gas meter?
Yes. However, we must first ensure that your service pipe has the capacity to support a larger meter size. To determine that, we will perform a GT1 check. If appropriate, we will exchange your existing meter with a new one.
